- NEW!
Once, then I wait about 20-30 seconds. If there is no sign of anyone I will ring it a couple more times. If no one shows up, I just take whatever I want.
That depends on how lone it takes for someone to arrive. If two rings, generously spaced, didn't do the trick, I would say "Hello" somewhat loudly. After that I might even peek behind the counter and into a backroom to see if anyone is around.
when there is a bell, i usually have had to just ring it once before someone comes along. If there is no bell, i just usually say "hello?" "hello?"
More than that, then i would yell for someone.
If no one is there. . . . . . .I leave!
Usually around 3 times, and if know one comes around, after that third ring, I'll leave, and take my business else where.
Most of the time, I've noted that a sales clerk is in the area and he/she is only gone temporarily. Without ringing, I've waited no more than about a minute before the clerk returns. [ If a seemingly empty store surrounds me, I'd most likely ring once. ] The whole ring-a-bell thing -- it's like Pavlov's dogs to me somehow. My time is not that important that I can't wait a bit.
