SL00124, Lds 'Headquarters Culture' And The Rest Of Mormonism: Past And Present
The Mormon doctrine of "Gathering" created a distinctive culture at the headquarters of the LDS church. During founder Joseph Smith's life, this "headquarters culture" had pronounced differences of theology, Church practice, and culture from the experience of Mormons who lived distant from the headquarters. This had profound consequences following Joseph's 1844 martyrdom. This paper examines the significance and changes of LDS headquarters culture in Smith's lifetime, in pioneer Utah Mormonism, and in 20th-century Mormonism. I also suggest possible directions for the headquarters culture in the 21st century. In addition to emphasizing the distant past, this presentation invites the audience to participate in walking down "Memory Lane" by sharing their own experiences with this dynamic.
Speaker: D Michael Quinn

"the world are distinct the doctrine is remarkably the same"
MY RESPONSE
Yes, no doubt, in large part to the Correlation Department at Headquarters.
HOWEVER, the cultures are quite different and distinct.
I would suggest that you listen to Mike Quinn's lecture it's quite interesting and thought provoking.
Just out of curiosity are you in Utah or elsewhere?

I am elsewhere but am well versed in Utah

Then would you admit that Utah Mormon Culture is quite different than the rest of the world?
And would you be willing to admit that Salt Lake City Mormon culture is quite different than the rest of Utah?
And, finally, would you be willing to admit that the culture inside LdS World Headquarters is quite different than the rest of Salt Lake City Mormon culture?
Quinn explains WHY that is in the lecture and it's quite interesting.

true, the culture in those places are unique to a degree but when you add 'mormon' to the title it becomes misleading. and i would still argue that while the culture is different the doctrine remains the same.
I will have to dig a little deeper into Quinn's lecture.

I would recommend that you listen to Mike's lecture - it's superb.
And you seem to be missing the point - this isn't, and never was, primarily a question about doctrine. You'll see this better when you listen to the lecture.
Yes, doctrine HAS been impact by this dynamic in the past but that's been more a by-product than anything else.
