I want to qualify my answer. Some people want to be helpful, and there is nothing wrong with saying, "Hey, you might not have heard about this Jesus guy, are you interested?" However, once I say, "No thanks, I have my own religion/belief system/burning alter in the backyard/etc," they are bordering on disrespect if they keep going.

They are basically saying they're right and I'm wrong. Even with the best intentions in mind, it's still kind of offensive.

    Of course it isn't.

EVERYONE is trying to change you. Coke thinks you would be a better person if you stopped drinking Pepsi.

The local charity asking for your donation for the homeless shelter thinks you would be a better person if you gave them money for their operation. And the local humane society thinks you would be even better if you instead gave that charitable donation to help the poor homeless dogs.

Mormons think you would be better if you joined their church. And Baptists thinks Mormons would be better of if they joined the Baptist faith. And Atheists think everyone would be better if they abandoned religion altogether and became Atheists.

If you walk around this life, feeling offended and insulted if someone approaches you and says "My way is a better way", you are going to be a miserable person.

It's an insult and an unwelcome invasion of privacy.

    Agreed.
They obviously feel that you're not capable of making informed decisions about your own beliefs.
