I would hope there would be some kind of happy medium between what we have now and socialized medicine. Switzerland did it, so we should be able to as well.

No because my tax dollars shouldn't have to help the fat, lazy people who don't get of their asses to find a job. I know that sounds bad, but that's how half the poor people got there.

Under our present system you will recieve care, even if you cannot pay, if the government takes over, you will not get care even if you can pay.

No. Hell no. Like the saying goes, "If you think health care is expensive now, just wait to see what it costs when it's 'free'."

Universal health care is not the answer.
Remember NOTHING is free! We all will end up paying more, in tax, or care one way or another. Things will be compromised, access will be more limited.
Compare take home pay in the US vs. UK, they shovel out over 1/2 their pay check to their government.
Other places with such coverage cannot see a physician when they need care... how is that improving any health care situation?
What happens when you pay doctors less? Fewer doctors. Fewer facilities.
And who is footing the bill? We already have a welfare-care system, and (in the US) no one is denied care because they cannot pay.
Add the "mandate" where you are "Fined" for not buying into government healthcare.
Add the invasion of privacy by the government, they will have access to all your health information, and have control of all health care related decisions. Do you trust them to have that kind of control over your life?
The Obamacare plan also will have everyone paying for abortions, which plays against the religious beliefs of many Americans! (Add Obama's support of "after birth" abortions when he was in Chicago, leaving babies in closets if they were "accidentally" born alive, and his support of late-term abortions).
Remember the monster behind obamacare; remember the fact the government is filled with tax-cheats & liars who cannot handle money to save their lives... Do you trust them with YOUR life???

What we need to do is get GREED and RUTHLESSNESS out of healthcare, not profit. Profit isn't a bad thing, when we have all these greedy and ruthless people at the top that's when we get such a big problem! What we need to do is change the laws so not to allow these evil administrators to seize control of the whole medical cartel and vote their asses out and get alot more benevolent compassionate people at the top who will truely work for the betterment of mankind and not just the ones who've got an insatiable appetite for more and more dinero and who've got the attitude F**K all you little people who are stuggling to pay your bills and all you people who have sick loved ones and you parents who have sick children but can barely afford to keep them well HA HA HA HA! I'm just going to drive home to my mansion in one of my many jaguars and or Lamborghinis where 5 of my 10 mistresses will give me head and the other 5 will massage me and fetch me beer, while I watch Nascar on my 100 inch High Def TV and crap out nickels in my solid gold toilet!

YES WE SHOULD. Healthcare should be accessable to all citizens and not just those who can afford it. Also realistically who can say they ENJOY THE STRESS of struggling to pay their medical bills?

I wanted to raise a few points against some of the arguments against universal healthcare.

Firstly, it is important to note that a free market system does also ration a good, in this case healthcare, and does so on the basis of who has the ability to pay for it, as opposed to a universal system in which a good is rationed by government. There are many arguments about the pros and cons for each system, but generally it's a case of choosing where you want to be on the free markets vs. government intervention scale.

It is also mentioned above that healthcare is a need not a right, and that as a result of this the government should not provide it in a universal system. However, taking this principal further, the government should also not provide a universal education system, or road maintenance of any kind, as simply these are not rights either, merely needs. I believe that, most people see universal education and road maintenance as beneficial to the US economy, and that the economical opportunities they create far outweigh the cost to taxpayers. I fully believe that healthcare should be treated the same way.
