I am going to Thailand with my boyfriend this summer and to be honest, a bit nervous. Is Thailand with a partner a good idea?

I have been mentioned it to my female friends and they respond with sentiments such as: "Good luck with that.", "I would be amazed if he comes back your boyfriend." etc. The fact that there are virtually naked ladies, women and girls practically everywhere (not to exclude the ladyboys) is a little uncomfortable.

I trust my boyfriend and I am a cool laid back girl who is very sexually liberal but I have heard the prostitutes in Thailand are extremely forward when it comes to Western men and will go so far as to corner them in bathrooms. When they are propositioning at a bar, it doesn't matter if a man is 70 or 25 and whether he is there with his wife or girlfriend. Is there any way to avoid the happy-endings massage parlors and the g-strings? Because I love my boyfriend but that is NOT my idea of a good time and not why I'm spending thousands of dollars to go. That said, I want him to have fun but I don't want to be hounded by prostitutes everywhere. Are there places in Bangkok or further north where we can avoid this?

Has anyone been to Thailand, SE Asia or a country where prostitution is rampant and could you share your experiences/advice? Thanks!

I would not prefer going there with my partner though if you are all set to go will suggest you to strictly stay away from red districts and also some places at night, but over all it is a good place to visit.

I haven't been to Thailand, but my friend and his wife spend a week each winter holiday there and say that it is a beautiful place. If you don't feel o.k to go to the red districts , then don't go. Although I think you are over reacting, by imagining how a 5 f 4 woman will pull your boyfriend from your table at a bar and take him to a massage parlor for a happy ending massage if he doesn't want.

- haha! yeah. everyone who has been there is full of horror stories about broken marriages and girlfriends left alone in bars. i made this question to encourage discussion and understand what it's going to be like more realistically. it's not like i can't get mine in thailand if that turns out to be the case but i actually like this guy and intentionally tried to make the poll funny.

- also, it's not like i think they're just going to come up and demand he have sex with them or anything but they are oft described as "relentless" when it comes to western men.
  
  i just have no idea what a country is like in which prostitution is legal and so abundant as it is in thailand. and keeping tabs on him the whole time i'm there is more than ridiculous. i just want to know what to expect so i can relax a little. aaannnd i want us to have a good time with my boyfriend, with as few hookers around as possible. call me crazy. thanks.

Did I mention that we will be there for over a month? This will be my first brush with sex tourism and the furthest from home I have ever been. Help me out here. I am interested in temples, hiking and beaches. Not TNA, there are strip clubs everywhere in the US.

Also, is this issue over-hyped and Western conservatism just makes it sound awful when it's perfectly avoidable so long as you're not a desperate butt-grubbing farang who is looking for it?

To me, this wide exchange of money for sex with extremely young men and women (perhaps 18, perhaps not quite) is a step above human trafficking.
