And was it legal for that professor to carry a gun on campus? If Alabama University is like most other schools, then the answer is no. So, banning of guns on campus really did a lot to stop him, didn't it.

I do not believe there is a law to prohibit it. It was the University of Alabama at Huntsville if I remember correctly.

Uh, no. It is a "gun-free" zone.

This is the common practice on the large majority of college and university campuses around the country. So, once again, banning guns from campus did nothing to stop this professor from bringing a gun to the campus and killing her colleagues. As a matter of fact, she was in violation of the state's gun laws as she did not have a permit for that gun. So, the laws did nothing to stop her. However, another armed citizen there on the campus could have.

Thanks. I didn't research it and have no reason to keep up. I have a list of places in Alabama where guns are not permitted which did include K-12 schools, but it did not specifically say colleges and universities. It is, after all, Alabama, land of the gun-totin' redneck. I wonder if outright outlawing guns would work any better.
I remember reading (when it happened) that she may have shot her brother some time before this happened, and that she had a public disturbance and assault charge earlier too. The woman may have been a loon. She's still waiting for trial and going in with an insanity defense.

You aught to check out a book call "More Guns Less Crime". The fact of the matter is that the statistics show that banning guns leads to more gun violence, not less. Gun bans only take the guns away from those that abide by the law. They don't take them away from the criminals. So, all such bans do is limit the law abiding citizens' s ability to defend themselves.
