• Ok, but in GENERATIONS it seemed like he was written a bit wimpier because he couldn't accomplish the mission w/out Kirk's help.

• Generations was just poorly written to begin with. It was an odd-numbered Trek film, and those historically are mediocre at best.

• I agree with you there, but you must admit it IS a fascinating phenomenon, init?
  Picard was very tough of spirit, and clever as a fox.
  Kirk was just one of those guys that had luck on his side more often than not and was in the right place with the right people at the right time; kinda guys.

• Definitely true. And you can see how much more of a badass Picard was in First Contact. Stewart and Spiner talked about all the working out they had to do for their parts in that movie.

• Data was excellent in that episode. I loved the way he handled his XO when the guy accused him of being insensitive to human crew who weren't "replaceable bits of machinery". Data also assumed command of the Enterprise in a two-part episode where Picard was presumed dead, and Riker was kidnapped by the smuggling gang Picard had infiltrated under the name Galen. He did good in that episode as well. It's too bad he got blown up before he could ever get a command of his own.

• Well, this Old School would be perfectly happy to have female captains. But Kate Mulgrew was not the actress to pull it off.

• I agree with Old School!
  Mulgrew TOTALLY turned me off that show and I'm a die-hard closet Trekker.
  She was like the Hillary Clinton of the 23rd century.
  And she was written so overdone for lack of a better term.
  While all other Captains in Star Trek looked to their crew, she always seemed to have all the answers to absolutely EVERYTHING and seemed to have to coddle the crew through!
