    You are not alone in that attitude. As a retired clinician, I can attest that patients do intentionally expose themselves. Some are quite subtle about the act, while others are very blatant.

    Because of my specialty, partial exposure and contact with a woman’s chest was essential; however, I always made a concerted effort to minimize that invasion of their “modesty.” Despite my best effort to keep them covered, many women insisted upon pulling their gowns wide open when I began their physical examination. Over the years, I have been surprised to find several female patients completely undressed waiting for their examination, which was completely unnecessary.

    Nurses and female colleagues have shared with me that it is even worse for them with men. I suppose that the clinical environment seems like a safe place to express such exhibitionist tendencies, but I fail to see the thrill in it. We all have the same basic parts that are expressed with typical variance. I guess if a person lacks other outlets for expressing their physical identity, the clinic is a good as any. For those who would engage in such activity, remember that the clinician on the receiving end is probably not appreciative of your behavior. Although they may not bring attention to it by failing to acknowledge it, they would prefer that you did not do it.
