Do you think rocking your baby every night is necessary? He is 7 months old now!

Mother in law pushed its the "bonding" time line on me the other night and kind of made me feel bad, though i spend so much time bonding during the day and love our connection that we have! pure love

Self-soothing is the best way to get your baby to be able to fall asleep on their own.

They need to know you're there .. but you don't need to rock them to sleep all the time. That is just setting you both up for problems in the future.

While cuddling your baby is not a bad thing, it is a bad idea to get into bedtime routines that make it so he can't fall asleep on his own. Letting them lay with you, rocking them, or sitting with them until they fall asleep will only create bad habits. Children need to learn how to go to bed without it being such a long drawn out process with you there every step of the way. If you don't stop now, it will only be more challenging as he grows older and you'll be one of those mothers who has to reserve 2+ hours every night to get your kid to sleep. He'll probably cry the first few nights but I promise he'll survive.
