Though it might look awkward, filling in race in job forms sometimes helps you a lot when you are a victim of racism. If authorities handling the matter of racism are aware of your race, they could help you in getting justice. It might be one of the options available with them counter racism and it's easier for them to survey about the composition of the company based on ethnicity.

If someone asks you what percentage of NASA employees are Caucasians , African americans, Native Americans, and other races, the surveys help you over there. It might not make any difference, but in study of demography, it helps up to a certain extent.

In a nutshell, it's just for the purpose of records.

There are plenty of valid reasons to have it there. If your potential employer was racist would you want to work there anyway? The crux of the matter for me is you would also have to remove age in case of ageism sex because of sexism and health because of disableism: all of which they could see when you got to the interview and they didn't hire you anyway so it makes no difference.

It's pretty useless to put on job application forms if you're hiring but I don't think it should be completely banned from forms, any descriptive information about people can be very useful, for example in the event of an investigation. If a bystander describes a suspect (e.g. "About 21, white, female") then having your list of potentials categorised by age, race and gender helps to eliminate them quicker.

    No small irony.

Since those things were included to help fight racism.

I am stunned race is still lawfully allowed on forms. it is in itself discrimination already.

I don't think race is ON job applications. It's an explicitly-labeled optional item on Human Resources forms ATER you're hired.

I don't see the use of race in forms. Neither the tittle of Mss or Mrs.

I believe that outside of explicit affirmative action programs, race/ethnicity questions are only on forms for statistical purposes.

Personally, I think it is useful to know how the demographics of the American public are changing.

Sadly even in the 21st century this is still a problem. It has got a little better but we still have a little bit more to go.
