First of all, the Torah is the first 5 books of the Bible, though I gather you meant "from the Christian New Testament [27 books] and the Hebrew Old Testament [39 books)".

Secondly, you should read both the Bible and the Quran and see for yourself. If you do, you won't come away with the impression that the Quran is just a cobbling together of passages from the Bible (which is much, much longer than the Quran).

    That being said ...

The Quran makes some references and allusions to the Bible - primarily the Torah and the Gospels - but repeats very little that is in the Bible, and even then it's almost never direct quotation. The Quran does however borrow extensively from the apocryphal infancy "gospels" of James and Thomas.

It is, however, essentially an original work composed in Arabic in the lyric poetry of late 6th century Arabia.

I imagine it was cobbled together, but I'm not sure about that.

To say that the HQ was the work of Mohammed would be to give him greater credit than the Muslims do.

To say that the HQ was put together by Mohammed from the Bible would be to give him even greater credit, the credit of learning the Bible well, working on what to leave out, what to reproduce and what to modify. The credit of being able to do all that secretly. That of course was impossible. He was a man who was so much in the spotlight of both his followers and his opponents. He was strongly disliked by his opponents and had many critics watching his every move, ready to trip him on the slightest inconsistency in his claim.

The HQ was said to be revealed to Mohammed a few verses at a time over the last 23 years of his life, from the age of 40 onwards. The revelations would come to him in any situation where there was a problem to be resolved or an issue to be addressed. Any time he received a few verses of revelation he would dictate them to his scribes, and he and many others would commit them to memory.

The revelations claim to be from the God of Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses and Jesus, the one whom Jesus called "Thee, the only true God". That is why there is so much similarity in the core content of the OT, the NT and the HQ.

    Both.

Islam is the 3rd "Abrahamic Religion". The 2 first (cronologically) being Jewry and Christianity.

All 3 religions believe in 'The god of Abraham'. Each in their own slightly different way.

It's different than either the bible or Torah, being the word of Mohammad. It's more like a religious instruction manual than story book. Some beliefs cross over.
