This is a reported problem that is on the priority list of fixes. With luck, now that the US Holiday season is just about over, it will receive attention within days.

In the interim it would be easier if there was a way to filter out comments from our feedback. If there is a way to do that I haven't found it.

It might lengthen the unwanted and dead subject, but at least they can't think that they've somehow "won" the discussion this way.

(sorry, I wrote that other answer first, and forgot to vote before. Then I voted, and I put this in the field where they asked to elaborate...)

Thank you for pointing at this. I see this as a bug and I also hope it will soon be corrected, or that we get aware of this.
I could also verify that it works that way at the moment.

Another way to formulate this is that "we don't automatically subscribe to a comment thread by writing a comment in it".
That way, you get notified comments on your own answers, but not of comments on the answers that you commented.

One way to find those comments is to look at the comments that you have done on other user's answers in your "activity", and to open them to find out it some further comment has been done that would address your comment.

Actually I knew that. I reported it already on the blog.

I spend alot of time trying to remember whose answers I commented under so I can check their profile to see if they have responded by looking at their feedback. Takes at least 4 times as long if I ever find a thread again.
