Believe it or not, it depends on the type of sandwich it is. Most of the time its diagonal but PB&J for example is always down the middle and I have no idea why I do that.

Sandwich bread is a pretty standardized size. How come pre-sliced sandwich meat and cheese is always some other size? What's with round sandwich meat? Grumble, blah, humbug!

Haven't there been loads more better things since they invented sliced bread. The computer for example. Why is everything the best since sliced bread. It's not that good. it's only a cut loaf.
