GRYD FEASIBILITY WHITE PAPER ON SMARTGRID COMMUNICATIONS IEEE 1901TM BROADBAND POWER LINE STANDARD FOR 500 Mbps

    http://www.gryd.org

New standard is enabling technology for Smart Grid, transportation and LAN applications was finally approved.

But the challenges and feasibility is yet to be tried in real world applications, so GRYD.org integrated synchrophasor and meter data as sample projects on short distance power lines.

There was major challenge to go over interconnects or low and medium voltage interconnects, what GRYD.org found was that, these devices were not designed for communication and some levels of interference was observed.
The optimal solution, that GRYD.org found was in both the first mile and last mile applications where distances were less than 1200 m, similar to early DSL ranges. For e.g. in the GRYD.org smartgrid server, GRYD was able to process, upto 30,000 simultaneous price signals, HVAC/Charging setback signals, demand response signals etc.

The limitation of using IEEE 1901TM Broadband over Power Line (BPL), was that it was limited to less than 100 Mhz. The good news is that it was designed using sophisticated modulation techniques to transmit data over standard AC power lines of any voltage.

GRYD.org observed there was a lot of promise on this smart grid technology, especially to connect AMI Smart meter with a lot of participants. It's still very early to tell about the adoption, but Comcast and Verizon like providers will find this competition if the power companies succeed.

Thats interesting, we are a smartgrid company as well. Has this been approved or is it in beta. I saw the GRYD videos/screenshots at gryd.org/smartgrid.html, can put up the rest of it, I am getting a bandwidht exceeded message. I am curious because, we are dealing with synchrophasors and AMI meters data concentrators on the, DMS, consumer energy management side. Will this solution work for the smart home meter and data at the sametime, wonder how comcast will take it. I am sure there will be a massive lobby policy effort to keep it out.

Is the GRYD smargrid server software available for a free trial, can we trial the features?

Meter, it was fine sometime ago, the video is a large file, we got a lot of hits on the Gryd.org website and it may have exceeded the limit.

There are two servers, which one are you asking about, the GRYD smartgrid server, and the GRYD backoffice distribution DMS energy management server, the latter is more a residential or downstream GRYD electric load manger. Also, can you tell me a little more about your company, or send us a email on the main website at support@gryd.org.

If you're COOP, or some form of a non profit with a 503C, we provide free client licenses to the GRYD server. Basically, it 0 cost of infrastructure for you. We could do a demo of the features, we are also releasing security features for the smart grid and data concentrators.

Turnkey smart grid, smart meter, DMS operator features assume some level of awareness of the energy stack and GRYD/Grid energy management ;) can you tell me what you did?

Lets see, Under the trial tab, I clicked on the 5th tile of the GRYD Energy analytics screenshot, for the smartgrid dashboard. There it asked me to login or register as a new user, then it asked me for my energy/utility domain like gas, water, electric. I picked GRYD electric dashboard, and then role, utility operator, renewable campaign management, home2grid, synchrophasor etc. I just picked GRYD home2grid role and it brought to me a dashboard with a map. I put some data in, and it let me configure the devices under home2grid and vehicle2grid. This worked fairly well. Its gave me a lot of information like, the current footprint, energy, weather, storage, demand for substation and zip code etc.... can I filter this?

When I clicked on the electric vehicle charging, the GRYD dashboard said security violation and that I was not authorized to use submetering on home2grid, it asked for a mapjects vehicle2grid license? One other thing was it didnt recognize a louisiana zip code and I had to try another area.

It seems like you did not add the Gryd home2vehicle role, you need both for what you're trying to do. Right now you cannot modify the features after configuring the GRYD role. I can see the link internally, I am not sure why you cant.

Its easier if you email support@gryd.org, we are fairly small so we can respond quickly to your request. I have created a request ticket #1012
