Did he ever transfer a pedofile priest from one parish to the next? Did he ever withhold information to protect "his kind" rather than be honest, open and ashamed of what some of his brethren have done? I don't know enough about him to have an opinion. Generally I think human beings are imperfect and therefore undeserving of glorfication. There may be some exceptions like Mother Teresa . Whether this guy rises to that level I don't know. Happy Sunday Stu B! :)

No way. He did nothing about pedophile priests, even though he was very well informed about the problem. Because of his inaction, thousands of little boys and girls were molested and traumatized for life. Since he was in a position to do something about it, but didn't, he's just as guilty and responsible as the rapists themselves.

He is also responsible for the high level of bigotry and hate in the church directed at women and LGBT people. His hatefulness should not be rewarded with sainthood.

He also failed to condemn fascism, especially in Spain and Croatia, but elsewhere as well.

Last of all, he drove a lot of people away from the church with his harl-line authoritarian conservatism. The people he drove away were the better educated core of the Catholic intelligentia, which is now reduced to an insignificant fraction of its former self. JPII clearly preferred his flock to be ignorant, but obedient.

The damage JPII did to the church is enormous, and will probably never be healed, especially since he stacked the episcopy and the College of Cardinals with obedient, but mindless yes-men. Ratzinger is a perfect example.

He was very humble, he actually went to snyagoges and masce, he would vist the sick and belived in indivdualism. Despite being a pope he still went to Poland to hunt and fish with his freinds. So yes, he would be a good example for others to look up to.

People become Saints the moment they become Born Again Christians. Not all people in positions of authority whithin the churches are actually saved. If he's Born Again the title already applies. Being recognized as a Saint in Catholocism demands proof of Saintly behavior. It has been said he covered up pedophilia of other priests when he knew about it prior to aquiring Popehood. Since then has he gotten saved? Was he saved then but afraid to stand up for the innocent? Does his other activities merit the label of Saintly behavior?
