• It means a completely different definition of life. At the moment we look at things like rocks, bread, cars etc and compare them to bacteria, monkeys and elephants and see something very different in what they do and how they do it. We call monkeys, elephants and bacteria alive.
  
  If we want to call rocks and planets alive then we need a new word for monkeys and elephants. After all, nothing would change about rocks and planets - they would still just remain inanimate lumps obeying simple natural laws.
  
  Calling them alive changes nothing - the huge difference between inanimate rocks and animate elephants would remain. You would just be playing with words for no other reason than going 'ooooohhhhh' alot and maybe sounding profound to people uncaring of all the differences.

• if you can call monkeys and elephants alive why not planets and rocks???? I know there is defferent. but for me if any liveing thing can die it has life

  Before we go much further do you actually know what a rock is?
  
  If you get an elephant and cut it in half you kill the elephant. Do it to a rock and you have what? Two lives?
  
  Rocks are certainly part of complex systems, but especially by the time we call it a rock and not making reference to the parent magma the rock is frozen. Literally billions of years go by and the rock does nothing other than move around and be applied to pressure and temperature. There are Gneiss's in the Northern UK that are more than 3 billion years old (for example).
  
  What does life mean to you if something only follows simple rules, cools down, it's atoms freeze into some shape, and then it does nothing for 20% of the age of the universe.
  
  Are you sure you have thought this through?
