In the United States, we have broadcast networks, basic cable stations and premium cable stations.

Broadcast networks (ABC,CBS,NBC,FOX,CW,PBS) are theoretically free, and have advertising- but most people get them as part of their cable subscription.

We have to pay a monthly fee for the basic cable stations (lots of them), all in one big lump- and those stations have commercials, even though we pay for them.

The Premium stations (HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Starz, etc) cost an extra monthly fee, and do not have commercials.

So, without those commercials, you would have to pay a Premium fee for it, instead of a low Basic fee.
