How could it possibly end racism? Seems that it has actually fueled it even more

Those Americans who insist Obama is not a citizen..who carry insulting signs about him...who band together with the single goal of undermining/destroying/damaging anything he tries to do...these are the core "true believers" who will never accept anyone who doesn't look like them, think like them, talk like them. They breed more of the same so there is a never-ending supply of these racists. How to change that? I think that is impossible. :(

its not as if obama was the perpetrator of racism

the white majority (yes i mean you republicans and teabaggers e.g. rush limbougjh and glenn beck , oreilly) as the perpetrators are teh only ones who can stop racism
because it is them who are doing it

but right now racists left and right are denying they are racists
and deny the existence of racism

while at the same continuing to harrass minoritys every day

so you cant even talk about it becasue tehy will figth hard to just evade the alllgeations so they never need to stop mistreating minoritys

tactics to deny the exisatence are:
labeling the victims as teh racist
blaming the victims as respobsike for racism
denying its existsene ("its 2011 racism is over")
saying that adressing the racism is the cause of racism
claimuing everyone is racist (thus evading rsponibilty for their evil ways)
and son on no toime ot expand this

    you get the clue
and by asking this question you are actually playing dumb
    and helping racism to continue
and you are enabling racists to mistreat and murder minoritys

Actually, both of these answers are correct.

President Obama's election is a positive step for race relations.

Teabaggers & Birthers notwithstanding, a lot of racist behavior in our society does not arise from an attitude of "He's black/purple/Lower Elbonian/whatever and those are bad people"

Instead, it arises from lack of familiarity. I remember seeing a black NFL coach (Tony Dungy?) discussing his lack of opportunity to be head coach even though he was well-regarded in the sport.

He said his impression was not that team owners were racist, but that their mental image of an NFL head coach was Knute Rockne or Tom Landry. Since he (the black coach) didn't look like that image, the owners were uncomfortable hiring him.

Similarly, our mental image of the President is almost universally WASP. Barack Obama changes that, and makes people more comfortable with African-Americans in positions of leadership.

That being said, we've still have a looooong way to go.

    No.

Racism is a mindset and you cannot change a mindset overnight or at all. Education might, and I said might, slowly decrease it but it is not going to end it. It is not going to stop overnight. Notice that I not stating which 'race' is racist. Some members of ALL ethnicities are racist, including my own (I am not white).

Obama has nothing to do with this process and is racist himself. I am basing this statement on his using an ethnic slur and deciding to not apologize based on ethnicity alone.

Obama shows favoritism to other ethnicities than the one he insulted based on ethnicity alone. That show RACE-ism because he made his decision based on RACE.

Obama is not setting a sterling example with anyone who caught his gaffe. Even if he could wave a magic wand he would not change the minds of people... including his own.

He is not showing a stellar example.

Nothing will ever end racism anywhere. There will always be bigots and racists around, but the point is, as a nation, we're getting better.

No, Obama has actually fueled the fire of racism by using it as a political tool.

    No...

As long as humans are on this Earth, HATE will exist. Do not lose hope. Obama's election was an example of less hate. Americans can be proud of that. If you like FOX NEWS, you totally disagree with everything I just said. It is too reasonable.

Neither, it seems to have stirred up a lot of racism, althought the tea party have yet to openly admit to it.
