• The problem is their are many people out there that profess to be "true christians" who are not true Christians because they spread hate. It is the same for Islam. There are many people who profess to be "true muslims" who are not true Muslims because they spread terror. You see for both religions there is the opposite side of the coin. Those that profess one thing and do another contrary to that which they profess. So it is not true Christians, or true Muslims that I have a problem with, it is the ones that step outside of their faith and use violence and hate that I have the problem with. I do not like the acts of terrorism. I love the human, but I do not love what they have been brainwashed to do or believe. The same goes with Christians who protest at a guy funeral, I love the people, but I do not love their actions as they are spreading hate.

  You have not stated that you are a Muslim, but I assume you are. In this case, I can understand how you could hate someone simply because they believe something that you don't like. This is how religion operates...by creating a relationship between a person's beliefs, and their worth as a human being. This is what allows a religious person to justify their persecution of another simply because of their opinions with regard to the way the world works.
  
  I'm not naive enough to assume that I can convince you that a person's beliefs have no bearing on their person-hood, so I guess you'll either have to take my word for it, or agree to disagree with me.
  
  I do hope that you never have children though. They tend to adopt some beliefs in their teenage years that can be quite radical, and it would disgust me to seem a parent of theirs develop hate for them simply because that parent doesn't like the ideas they hold.
  
  Few people adopt wicked ideas BECAUSE they are wicked people. Most people believe they are doing good by believing something, and are to that extent more of a victim of their beliefs than anything else. This doesn't make them bad people...and therefore inspires no hate from me to the person themself. I can hate the beliefs a person holds (mostly for what they do to the people holding them) without directing that hatred to the person themself. I hope for the sake of the people in your life that you will one day understand.
  
  I am no longer religious no. I am a former Christian, who experimented with Calvanist, Pantheist, and Gnostic beliefs as I studied philosophy and world religion before settling on an atheist position, and a secular humanist world-view.

  futhurmore it seems u really have lost faith, but atleast u give rational and non bious facts not like some people here.
  How bout this, try to study islam, not by only reading the translated words from the Qoran but the hadiths by al-bukhari and Muslim. I can fairly say that a debate with u will take 3 years 3months and 3 days to finish but as an intelectual u show a lot of things that i could use in my life later onwards.

• I appreciate your concern...it does appear quite genuine which is something I do not get very often.
  
  I have actually studied Islam quite a bit. I've been through the Koran twice (once in college, and once more since, after having read the Hadith Bukhari as it was recommended that I do). This collection appears a bit disjointed, but I do actually have mostly good things to say about the Koran as a work of literature. It is one of the better written of the holy books, and a good deal more modern (moreso it seems than would be accounted for simply by the disparity in it's date of compilation compared to it's predecessors).
  
  Obviously I don't take the claims seriously, and I've already given my opinion as to the dangers I see when people do, and as such I won't go over it again.
  
  I have not read the Hadith Muslim however, and have just downloaded it at your recommendation. I've had a heavy work schedule lately, but plan on starting it this weekend and continuing as I get time.
  
  Feel free to get back to me after a little while and I'll look forward to a discussion about it!
  
  Again, very nice talking to you, and I'm sure we'll end up in unrelated discussions even before then.

Lets see, you have said that Islam teaches us to hate people who do not follow our way life- on the contrary there are verses in the 'Holy Koran' which tells us that 'do not abuse the gods of other religion', which tells us that 'don't destroy the places of worship of other religions''their religion is to them and your religion is to yours', it is clearly mentioned in the "Hadiths" that when the "Prophet-Peace and Blessing of Allah be on him" took over the city of 'Mecca' their were non-believers, they were not prosecuted! in fact they were allowed to continue with their practices and were asked to not interfere with the practices of the 'Muslims', remember the place of worship for both the believers and the non believers then was the same, still to they were not stopped. You say that Islam dehumanizes and degrades the Womens, I don't see from where You have got this idea, Islam is the only religion on the face of the earth which has verses and chapters dedicated towards the explaining the rights of 'Women' and their position in the society, the problem is that such attitude does not goes down the throat of the so called liberals of the "West" they opposes a Muslim man having 4 wives, where each and every one of them gets the right to the husbands property and name and the criteria for marrying more then once is so strict that not many can marry, where-in in the 'West' they keep mistress, as many as possible but no problem its fashion, status symbol, what does a mistresses get??? in the name of art, culture and women liberation they are ready to have their daughters, sisters and wives used as commodity, we don't, Islam does not permits such exploitation and thus Islam becomes degrading to 'Womens', Islam advices the womens to guard their modesty and you call it old fashioned and advice your women to expose themselves so that it can used for commerce and entertainment- and then you call Islam as degrading its women. I think you should read "The Holy Koran" again but this time without a bigoted mind.

  Of course there are. There are also verses that say just the opposite. I'm not sure how much of your Quran you have read, but I'll be happy to share with you some of the verses I am referring to when I made this claim. You may be able to ignore large portions of your text, but there are others that do not.

  If you don't see the problem here then I'm not sure there is much I can say. It is a fundamental right of human beings NOT to have their "position in society" dictated to them by somebody else. I'm disgusted by this idea.
  
  I'm not actually opposed to polygamy in principle, granted that all parties involved are consenting adults. My only issue with it currently is that the laws in my country aren't currently adapted for this kind of legal arrangement, and the implementation of such a set of laws will be quite a challenge. I'm open to the idea however.

  You seem to have misunderstood western culture. Your opinion is strangely similar to the people whose impression of western culture depends solely on the entertainment media that emanates from Hollywood.

People who are prone to infidelity are generally criticized in western culture, as are the parters they engage with...particularly if this is being done in the mutual knowledge that one parter is attached at the moment.

• It is not my book, by the way I am not Muslim, but I have Muslim friends who have told me the only time they have the right to fight is if their country is invaded by the infidel. (USA in Iraq, USA in Afghanistan). So invasion or if someone has murdered someone they believe in capital punishment, as do many US states. Those are the only two reason they are allow to fight and kill a person. If they do it for any other reason, then they will go to hell as murder is considered a sin. So those people who attacked the trade centers in 9/11 are hell ward bound according to the Muslim faith.
  
  Now those fighting for freedom from invaders to their country in Iraqi and Afghanistan are fighting legitimately as they are allow to defend themselves from invaders. Just as any American, Christian or not, would defend their own country against invaders. Even though it says specifically in the New Testament to turn the other check. I cannot image one American, professed Christian, who would allow a foreign body to invade their country, kill their children, destroy their homes and businesses and just turn the other cheek. They would stand up and fight, just like the Muslims are doing now in Iraq and Afghanistan.
  
  Personally I think all war and violence should be done away with. Get the American's and Canadians out of Iraq and Afghanistan and let them fight it out. We should not have to sacrifice our soldiers for another persons war. Plus just being there is is causing those people to hate us even more. With more likelihood that those people will go outside of their own faith and begin attacking us. We are causing the hate. Not them. We are the ones killing their children, not them. It was 19 terrorists that killed people not the average Afghan or Iraqi. And yet we are killing those average people out of vengeance. A vengeance, that if the American's consider themselves Christians, is strictly prohibited by their own faith. You say that Muslims are taught to hate and kill, well so are Christian's and yet you say nothing about them. Hypocrite much.

I spent 20 years as a Christians, and speak now with them frequently. I've found them to be THE most universally hateful group of people I have knowledge of. I'm actually often surprised by how many types of people they actually CAN hate. Please also not that both the question, and the comment of yours that I am referring to specify "Christians" as a group of people...and the scriptures do nothing to address this point for purposes of discussion.

They are actually told if they commit violence against others when not in self-defense they will suffer eternal punishment. It is only in the act of protecting their home against invaders. The USA invaded Iraq and Afganistan and they are allowed to protect themselves against invaders.
  
  There are Christians in the USA army and they though they are taught in their religious book to turn the other cheek more than 77 times still go to war and defend their country. There are just as many Muslims who profess to be Muslims that are not, as there are Christians that profess to be Christians but are not. Both groups are guilty of crimes and yet both try to say "Its not me or my faith, it is corruptors of that faith that commit the crime. All religions can be corrupted to allow people to go to war. That does not mean they will not experience the pain and suffering they caused in their walk through hell. It just means that humans are humans it does not matter what faith they profess.

• PrimeFactor do not even bring the Old Testement into it. There are many passages in there where God instructs the Jewish people to utterly destroy their enemies. To kill both women and children. So if you are using the Old Testement you are as bad as the Muslims that were taught to kill in the name of God. For Jews (And Christian's who believe in the OT) were also taught to kill pagans. Thou must not suffer a witch to live! And yet how many practicing Wiccans live in North America with their Christian neighbors. And yet they do not kill them. Why not, God in the bible said they should, and yet they suffer them to live. It is all about perception.
  
  I have be taught my many Christians on this site that I cannot take the bible out of context by just quoted bible passages because I do not understand the content around them. All those quotes you said from the Surah I could find equal ones in the OT.

• Soul, I cannot and will dispute the fact God sent His people to utterly destroy those who were the enemies and take over their land. No disageement there I only mentioned that to reveal that there were people of the Bible instructed to "defend home" as you so eloquently put it. That however was the wrath of God there is now a New Testament written in the body and blood of the "Christ" in which no more are we to destroy our enemies, yet we are to stand up for what we believeis right.

• So what do you think Muslims are doing? Standing up and defending what they believe in. There country was invaded, their leader was deposed and their homes and business destroyed. And then that invading country says, "Hey were going to set up a new government for you just like ours." And people wonder why Iraqis hate American's. So their youth are brainwashed into a cult saying you can defend your country and God will love you for it. Not into mainstream Islam, a CULT that uses Islam to propagate their goals. Cults are not the same thing as Islam. Just as many Christians would deny the Jim Jones or David Koresh Christian cults as not Christian. So do many Muslims consider the cults which call for suicide bombings, just that CULTS.

Now im saying I regret posting this question 4 it has wasted all of your time.. blaming islam, blaming christ.. u know what?? i believe in my god and i wish all to respect that.. the truth shall be revieled some day. and i wish all to receive the hidayah from this question. it is rude to blame and it is rude to support. just follow what u believe

• Thank you tedmie. I feel most who proclaim themselves Muslim's or Christians are good, kind, peace loving people. I feel the need to defend both faiths from persecution based on actions of a few. I sometimes get carried away. I believe in freedom of religion and faith. I don't follow any particular religion but I had a spiritual experience that allowed me to experience the love, forgiveness and peace of God. And in the face of that experience I came to understand why people love their religion on faith so much. I am also sadden by those who use the religions of God to propagate war and violence. For God is love and peace.

  Muslims boast that the Quran is the actual words of Allah, and that it supersedes the Bible and the Torah. This is impossible if you apply logic to your thinking.
  
  Because Muhammad claim to be a prophet of the God of Abraham, Moses, and Jesus the Bible and the Torah became the law and the Quran becomes the evidence if a crime is committed.
  
  Christians believe Muhammad committed a crime against God.

  Well Christian's boast that the New Testament is the actual words of God. And Jews profess that about the Old Testament. Mormons boast that about their bible. Every religion thinks they have the "rights" to God's words. Unless those words are love, forgiveness and respect they are not the words of God. (At least in my humble opinion). See we all think we are right.
  
  For me I know it doesn't matter who is right or wrong, as God loves us all, good or evil. And forgives us all good or evil. The punishment God gives you is the one you have created for yourself. What sins you have caused are what sins you shall feel. After that God is merciful and forgives, showing souls what unconditional love truly is and feels like. (;-) But that was just my experience of God. I'm not saying it is right for anyone else, just me)

• The problem with Muhammad and his Quran is Muhammad deface the Christian and the Jewish religions by contracdicting YHVH's revelations to them, then claim their God and give him a different name.

• Yeah I have been doing some more reading about the Koran and its words. It seems as though the first 13 years of his preaching was peaceful then all of a sudden he got power hungry and changed the message.
  
  I believe he was struck with the revelations and love of God. But reverted back to his human nature and corrupted the very message he wished to preach. I am saddened that he lost his way and lead so many people away from the peace and love of God.
