MORMONS TRUE or FALSE: LdS do not let girls join the Girl Scouts because they don't want them to learn leadership skills and become leaders

This question was posed to a Mormon friend and I thought that it was interesting enough to ask here - to a world wide Mormon audience - as well.

I've been exposed to the LDS Church for 51 years, and I've never heard _anything_ about the Church not letting "girls join the Girl Scouts." About ten years ago we signed my younger daughter up with the local Brownies troop for a couple of years, and she had a great time there.

This same daughter has _always_ been abnormally sure of herself. About the same time, ten years ago, her Primary teacher told my wife and me that we just needed to recognize that she was a natural leader. So so much for the idea that the LDS Church doesn't want girls to learn leadership skills; somebody forgot to send that memo to her Primary teacher (who was a man by the way).

There are two false premises in the question. Firstly, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does NOT forbid (or even counsel against) girls join the Girl Scouts. Secondly, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does not wish to prevent girls from learning leadership skills.

This question probably arose because the Church is not an official sponsor of the Girl Scouts, but is an official sponsor of The Boy Scouts of America.

the LDS church does not support the Girl scouts because of they allow gay leaders. if the boy scouts ever allowed gay leaders the church would cut ties with them as well.

The LDS Church is an official sponsor for the Boy Scouts but not for the Girl Scouts for a very simple reason. _God inspired_ the leadership of the LDS Church to become an official sponsor for the Boy Scouts, and He never inspired them to become a sponsor for the Girl Scouts.

My sisters were girl scouts, as are my nieces, I didn't join because I REALLY HATE the uniforms. And they didn't do ANYTHING cool, no camping, no fishing, just crafts and bake sales and selling cookies, Ugh. Im a natural leader anyway. God bless.
