To me Personal Revelation holds the most weight and authority, for without it I would not believe in LDS Prophets past, present, or future, I would not believe in LDS scripture they would all be without weight from Official declaration 2 all the way back to Genesis.
    As the Bible puts it:
"If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater" 1 John 5:9
and as the Lord asks in the Doctrine and Covenants:
"What greater witness can you have than from God?" (6:23)
And as the Spirit once whispered to me:
"Direct revelation from God is more powerful than any book ever written, or that ever shall be written"
And that's how I feel about that.

Obviously all Prophets of God, speak for God and will not ever contradict another Prophet as to the revealed word of God. However, sometimes certain scriptures require some clarification, and a living Prophet can inquire of the Lord and receive answers as needed. So his word is final in that thing.

However, we are taught that anyone who has received the Holy Ghost is entitled to personal revelation and some times we can receive answers for ourselves.

But when the revelation effects the whole Church, it will come through the living Prophet...Later
