It was Club Med. A beautiful place, perfect water, though no waves. People were great. This was decades ago, when it was a singles thing.

I do remember, as at other Carribean Club Meds, that outside the Club there was extreme poverty, which was sad.

I went along with my husband to Martinique for business (two weeks). We were the only two American people on the island and not one word of english was spoken or written anywhere. It was the most beautiful place I'd ever seen as far as landscape. And the ugliest when considering the poverty and how they lived. I found the people rude - even the other tourists - and we were afraid for our safety sometimes.

My favorite things were the McDonald's - food was terrible but you could order by picture lol and the one grocery store. We gave up trying to identify the food at the hotel and cooked for ourselves on our kitchenette patio. It was so funny at the store: you are surrounded by the French, no english anywhere, yet they're playing Stevie Wonder through the speakers.

    Beautiful island...culture not so beautiful.
