Absolutely NOT MANDATORY. Mandatory and Freedom would be oxymoronic in this case.

Not everyone is cut out for military. Can you imagine having to depend on someone unqualified if your life depended on it?

Hey i say no since im already enlisted of my own free will and from what i understand the army is already well overstaffed at the moment anyways due to the economy, also simply enough if we needed an army that bad we have the draft for that (yes pepole its not gone we just dont use it) and besides theres nothing worse than a soilder who doesnt want to be there its like that guy at work who hates his job hes not going to be as productuve as the person who wants that job..

I think everyone would benefit from it. but to do so would be to basically destroy the founding principles of freedom America was built upon.

Yes sir, much like Israeli citizens, who have to serve before going to college. If every person child had a chance at being sent to war, we would be less likely to jump into thing that would lead to war. Israel is becoming less of a bully because the younger generation want peace, because they know they will have to fight, if elders keep creating problems. Mandatory 2 yr enlistment, followed by 4 yrs of active ready reserve, bet you my last testicle we will never have another war....NO SCHOOL DEFERMENTS!

Minimum military service should be required for all males. Just a year or two would be enough.

No. America's army has always proudly been a volunteer army made up of women and men who have the conviction to serve their country and who feel a calling to be a soldier.

Mandatory enlistment into the army is not necessary and really would nullify all of that freedom stuff that we like so much.

All able bodied men over 18 should do military or community service. Up to 18 months of service. Whether it is in the peace corp or the military, service builds character.
