    They do not, they simply serve to indicate what KIND of pill it is. A select few pharmaceutical company's do, however, change their number on a yearly basis for example to note a production year / formulation of the drug used, not many though.

    No it doesnt you can look up the pill and it will tell you what kind of pill it is. You need to know the size, color, shape, and what is written on both sides to determine what kind of pill it is.
