You're reading I'm a LEO; I'm a very nice guy, but have a considerable ego that drives away; how do I drop this?

Do you have any proof that it is not the feeling of being "egoless" that actually is an illusion? I believe what people call "ego" - in the derogatory sense - is just the normal, healthy sense of an individual's identification with his body and the circumstances he was born and raised in. Nothing bad with it.
I mean, to my knowledge, it is people about whom it is said that that they have "large egos" that usually act calmly and rationally. On the other hand, people who tell others to throw away their egos do it in a pushy, aggressive manner.
BTW. You say "[ego] will run your life, even if you try to rein it in". To me, it looks like a scare. It looks like telling me that there is some hidden monster in me that I must temper at all costs, or else [insert a dread prospect here]. Actually, it's similar to telling people there is Hell.

I don't tell people to throw away their egos, and I agree that it's "normal and healthy". But, there is a level beyond identification with ego, and that is something that is rather self-validating: if you've seen your own ego from enough sides, and see how it shifts and changes, and see how it comes into existence (and sometimes goes out of existence), the conclusion that it is a psychological construct without absolute substance is unavoidable.
Basically, someone either knows this or they don't. Some people don't really know it, but pretend to know it or understand it only conceptually in an abstract way. Those who really know it don't need to defend it like an opinion, it's just like gravity. Either you see it or you don't.

The thing about the ego, is that it usually doesn't bring the best out in people. That's why it can be like a monster. The little voice in your head, is constantly criticizing, making us second guess our best decisions, makes us feel like others are out to get us, it can lead us into the most destructive paths. At least, I have found it to be true for me. That voice, rarely has something positive to say.
You say ur ego drives people away. Well, maybe your actions should derive from a source that will have your best interest at heart, and also consideration for others.
Maybe try listening to the answers that come from your heart, and then listen to the voice in your head. You decide. Then examine the outcome
