    Here's the thing.

When the studio sells that movie, they should be selling a license rather than a DVD.
Your license is a contract. You can watch that movie whenever you wish. If your DVD is damaged, you can download the movie from them and burn your own DVD.
However, you can't upload to bittorrent or broadcast or give copies to others.
If you do, that's breach of contract.

That would be the right way to do it.

Instead what they have is this nonsensical quasi-license. You buy a DVD, if the DVD breaks you need to buy another, so you didn't buy the content, right? But you can't copy the DVD... so it is about the content? And if you get the content given to you by someone else, and you never accept any license or buy any DVD, they still have an issue with you copying that content?

It depends on how you stream it.

If you are streaming from a web hosting service to anyone on the Internet, that would be illegal.

If you are streaming from your own home server or other personal device (Pogoplug), that still may not be legal but who's going to know.
