LDS claims to be the "one true church", the only true "Christian church". Why do you need a prophet? Why can you not talk to God personally?

    Indeed here is my "bare" Mormon Testimony:

    I would like to bear my testimony . . .
    I have diligently sought God regarding whether the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is true or not. To that end, I have read the Bible as well as the Book of Mormon and I have prayed consistently for over 30-years. I have felt an intense "burning in my bosom" many, many, many times in my life -- in fact, I carry it with me everyday of my life.

    And my testimony is this:
    I am utterly convinced that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is a non-Christian cult, that Joseph Smith was a false prophet, and Thomas S. Monson is a false Prophet as well. Further, I am utterly convinced that the Book of Mormon is an uninspired, man created work of 19th Century fiction.

    Here I stand before God and before men - I can do no other.

    Amos 3:7, "Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets."

    Doctrine and Covenants 1:38, "What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same." Last quote from LDS Scriptures not accepted by non-LDS. To prove this scripture false, you must prove that God did not appear to Joseph Smith and call him as a prophet. The best expert on this matter are the two others that Joseph Smith claimed were there. That would be God the Father, and Jesus Christ. Most men or women cannot be considered reliable witnesses. There are a few, though, who witnessed heavenly manifestations with Joseph Smith. See Church History.

    Therefore, from these two scriptures, we learn that if God speaks to His Prophets it is as if God, himself was speaking. What God says to His Prophets, He has said, and gives no excuse. Who are we to question God's methods? Is this not God's Church, and not the Church of man? If you truly want the answer to this question, you should not be asking anybody here on Earth, but you should be asking God.

    Also, Jesus Christ is in charge of His Church. If there are no prophets on Earth representing Jesus Christ, how can Jesus run His Church. We can obviously see that since there are so many religions, with all of them claiming to preach the truth, that the method of relying on the Spirit telling us the truth doesn't work. After all, isn't Satan a Spirit also? So, how can you discern between the Spirit of God and the Spirit of Satan?

    A church that has a prophet at its head follows the same pattern as the Bible. So, since God is the same yesterday, today, and forever, it makes sense that His Church would be led by Apostles and Prophets, especially since Paul taught the Ephesians that Jesus Organized His Church with Apostles, Prophets, and other offices as outlined in Ephesians 4:11-14. Paul also states that Apostles and Prophets are the foundation of the Church. Therefore, the Bible teaches us that Apostles and Prophets are necessary.

    At the same time, the existence of so many churches who have no prophetic leadership, who claim to rely on the Spirit to guide their church is testimony that relying on the Spirit alone does not work, and does not bring us to a unity of the faith that Paul talked about in Ephesians 4.

    Remember, Paul said that the leadership of the original organization of the Church would bring us to a unity of the faith. Once that organization was lost, unity became a lost goal. When the original organization of Apostles and Prophets were once again restored to the Earth that goal once again became achievable. We can now receive the Word of God through one voice, and not countless number of voices calling "Low here" and "Low there". We can hear God's voice through the voice of His prophet.

    none of those answers apply. to elaborate your first question, your second question was based on an untrue premise... I would not bear my testimony to you because of Mathew 7:6.
    we need a prophet for the same reason the people in the bible needed prophets. are you saying people durring the OT fell under 1 or more of your first 4 answers?

    LDS doctrine makes a "Prophet" necessary. They are not Christians. Christians believe that there is only One God, that there were no Gods before or after. LDS believe that God had a father and that that God had a father and so forth. They also believe that Jesus and Lucifer are spirit brothers. Anyone can get into the lowest level of heaven i.e. adulterous whore-mongers, murderers, apostate Mormons and us Gentiles. The elite Temple sealed Mormons get the highest heaven and can become Gods of their own world. Their entire cult is based on servitude, i.e. mission, Bishop council service as a child, fast tithing after 10% mandatory tithing. Remember this about Mormons 1. Not Christian, 2. Their only concern for you is to convert you, 3. Joseph Smith is a false prophet and a charlatan and bearer of false doctrine.

    Ephesians 4:11-14 (New International Version)
    11It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
    14Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming.

    The very first part of 4:11, "he who gave" this is past tense. Gave, not give or will give or giving.

    Mormons will ignore this and/or say that it is incorrect. This is to damming for them to handle.

    There simply is no -none- reason for a prophet.

    Having a prophet on the earth does NOT exclude or prevent personal revelation. Moses said he wished everyone was a prophet. There were many prophets during the days of Jeremiah.

    Having a single world-wide spokesman reduces confusion.

    Anyone who can talk to God has some serious psychological issues. What's even more dangerous is when someone claims to be a prophet and people actually do what the "prophet" says. Sounds all too familiar of a cult really. Only gullible and weak people end up in cults.
