I guess I would like a clarification of the word "use" as used in this question. The LdS Church has never condemned studying other translations, but for unity asks that only the KJV and the JST be used in English Church meetings.

I served my mission in Brazil, and the Church doesn't have a sanctioned translation in Portuguese. In Sunday School we could have up to a dozen different translations and editions (there are 4 editions of the Almeida translation alone). Because of different word choices, verb tenses, and sentence structure it was hard for some students to follow along. Also, some translations seemed to contradict others in a few verses. It was also problematic when Bible verses were quoted in Church magazines (especially Generally Conference talks).

Thus I support individual study of multiple translations (one of which should be KJV) while encouraging everyone using the same translation in Church meetings.

That would be like going to Europe and trying to use their plugs without an adapter, same power and electricity, but you can't make it fit. The Christian world would be even more resistant to our donctrine.

“We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly,” states the eighth article of the Mormon Articles of Faith. But it adds: “We also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.” Many wonder, though, why the need for other scriptures?

I thought they had their own Bible with space aliens and Jewish Indians in it. Or is that the Jehova's Witnesses?
