I said "yes" but I think that we are superfluous, kind of a "we do not care if you stay or go."

What they want is the teens to come in droves and click on the ads. If we stay, we stay. If we go, oh well.

No, I don't think that's the motivation behind the changes, at all.

The members of AB "management" are like the politicians in Washington, D.C., who couldn't care less about you or me, either way. They'll do what they damn well please even if it means destroying what was formerly a good thing for them. I don't get it...I really don't get it! Perhaps they are like so many these day, greedily wanting to get "more" for themselves. I just think this is the way to go about it.

    No, not in my opinion.
But I have to tell you, all these conspiracy theories, manipulation of "statistics", unfair penalty boxings, etc. are mildly entertaining.

Even if they did it to attract a younger audience, why would they purposely want to get rid of the old-timers?

I have wonder since it seems to have been designed along the lines of facebook etc to appeal to the teenagers.

It has caused the ones who regularly contribute to here to rethink their commitment to the site,it will bring in the younger crowds and might even relieve the site of the nonsense questions and answers it seemed to be inundated with for the last few years.

    I voted no.

I think it's just another example of the common administrative attitude that says, "If it isn't broken, fix it until it is!" ;)

I think it was more a case of wanting to net the facebookers and the twitterers. As Don Corleone would say... "Nothing personal - just business".

I don't believe that was the intention. I would guess the update was intended to sell more advertising. I have not found the new design to be user friendly.

    Yarnlady is happy every day

The changes are to increase the revenue value of this site, it has absolutely nothing to do with the users.

Facebook's layout sucks. and the fact that asnwerbag has seemingly acquired that layout, it's layout sucks. The fact that no one knows where anything is except the admin doesn't help...

Well, I am FreshApples, and I've been here over 3 years (But for some reason I can't login to my old accout, it says invalid password or e-mail address), and I don't mind the format, but I also like this Fluther. Until I can get logged back into my old account, I'm done here.

I'm not an AB old-timer but it might get rid of me. I'm trying to give it a week.
I think the intention was to attract the younger crowd.

That's awful. I hope that is not what they are trying to do. Even I'm still pretty young and it's kind of annoying that everything has to be like Facebook. Hang in there!!!!!!!!

You can't be serious - That this was INTENDED to get rid of all the older ABers.

Nope. I've explained why I think it happened in many places here.

And Arisztid's dialogue, here, is pretty damn close to my descriptions: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/1880805

No ~ I dont think that was the intention. I think it was to become more like the other Q&A sites. Sadly - that's not what alot of regulars users wanted.
(I dont think they took into consideration - dial~up users when making the changes either!)

I just don't know what to think any more. I would agree with this except they say they are listening. Unfortunately they may be listening but not doing anything about what they hear so in all likelihood I guess they did do it to get rid of the old timers.
