Would a house with a 54mbps router, work for a house wirelessly connecting to a PS3, a wireless laptop and a desktop with PCI wireless card.

Basically, would a 54MB/s router be sufficient or should I upgrade the router to say a 300Mbps router give any advantage over speed and general connectivity throughout the house?

A 300 Mbit/s router would not provide noticeably better coverage in an area the size of the house. The main benefit of a 300 Mbit/s router over a 54 Mbit/s router is intranet transfers. If you are not gaming or transferring files between computers, you will not notice any real difference, as the internet connection is slower than either internal connection anyway.
