    I would rather be in a less-than-perfect world convinced I had the wherewithall to make change for the better, and then do it, even exceeding my expectations, and feel good about myself for all the right reasons.

    The essence of the question contradicts itself. If the world was perfect then the person wouldnt be living under the bridge, or at least they wouldnt be living under the bridge for very long or they would be there by THEIR own choice to be there.

    Since the question also mentions world peace, one can argue that we have world peace now, sure they are wars going on in Afghanistan and soldiers are still getting killed in Irag, and terrorists still attack in places all over the world, but it can still be argued that the amount of violence in the world is greatly outweighed by the "peace" that exists as well. Of course violence and war will always be a part of human existence, it has been the one constant in human history along with sex since we started recording history itself. Each century that has come has been more violent then the one that preceeded it, so it really is only a matter of time until the next conflict arises.

    For those of us living now I would embrace the stability we enjoy presently. During WWII the war itself dominated every headline and every news story for at least the years of 1940-1945. We dont experience that now, and since history repeats itself its only a matter of time before we find ourselves in a similar situation.
