Symptoms of nicotine withdrawal can begin within a few hours of smoking the last cigarette and typically peak within a few days. For some people, nicotine withdrawal symptoms will go away after a few weeks. For others, however, it can take a few months, according to the nida.nih.gov website. Withdrawal symptoms can last for months when one is recovering from a cocaine addiction. Suicidal thoughts often accompany the withdrawal. Those wishing to stop the addiction should see a counselor for prescription medication or enter a 12-step program, as stated by the National Library of Medicine website. Cocaine withdrawal is more severe, because suicidal thoughts can threaten a person's well-being. Guidance by a qualified professional is recommended. On One Hand: Nicotine Withdrawal
