Should Gilbert Arenas be given a life time ban from the NBA?

• To be fair, even though people always talk about American's "gun nut" culture, there's alot of the opposite going around, to the point where it might have weighed more heavily on his decision making than anything the NRA puts out(they tend to preach more responsibility than that). He didn't want them in his house anymore, so what was he supposed to do with them? I doubt a bank will let you stick them in a safe deposit box, not sure if DC lets you pawn them or not, etc. Just the mere fact that his daughter's birth motivated him to get them out of his house seems backwards to me. Get a gun safe, sure. But I'd personally want to make myself more defensible if I were responsible for another human being, and not just myself.

• To add to my last comment, even though they WERE registered, he still felt like he was carrying contraband, and if you feel like you're doing something wrong already, you might just do some more wrong because "what the hell".

• @slim - Carrying a firearm into a workplace IS a big deal.
  
  In 99.9% of workplaces, the person who did it would be fired on the spot.
  
  In the NBA, this isn't even an implicit ban. The NBA and the NBA Players Union EXPLICITLY negotiated a "no guns on NBA-affiliated properties" clause in their last collective bargaining agreement.
  
  Also, like it or not, bringing those guns into Washington D.C. from one of the nearby states is against the law.
  
  But, apparently, people are too dumb to learn from the mistakes of their peers.
