this habit should be the last thing to be made legal.. it doesn't bring any good to people who indulge inthis kind of activity. this is not for fun because it involves money or so.. some are like working and making money just to sustain this habit.. you think that's great?? i 100% don't think so, i'd rather waste my money on shopping than this kind of hobby.

My answer is YES, simply because what consenting adults do together is their own business.

I'm not a gambler myself, but people gamble anyways.
Instead of staying home, most go to Casinos.
    What's the difference? Really?

It is here in parts of Colorado and if it went statewide or nationwide...We COULD make this recession go away faster and help build roads, etc...AS LONG AS the right people collected and distributed the monies.

Absolutely. It financially eliminates from the gene pool (in some cases) or at the very least limits people with the undesirable trait of taking extremely bad risks without cause, and it stimulates the economy for those with more desirable levels of intelligence and willpower.

I think so,, if people want to waste their money, why try to stop them. Besides, it's not like you have such a horrible time, doing it.

I admit, I don't like imposing my beliefs on other adults. But, that being said...

The biggest problem with gambling is that 1.) it's a scam and 2.) the wrong people --people who can't afford to and aren't all that bright-- are too often the ones who do it.

The biggest take for Biloxi, Mississippi Casinos comes on the first day of each month...the day the welfare checks arrive. I suspect it's the same for other state venues. I mean, is it a big surprise that the State of New York operates and makes sure that legal, off-track betting site are in sure to be found in the NYC ghettoes? Hey, a lot of that money should probably be going to feed kids!

Same thing happens at our so-called "public housing" facilities. The first day of the month --welfare check arrival day-- is the busiest...for the dope pushers. Yes...they sure do cash checks! Just sign here! They'll even trade for food stamps! No problem! :-(

I guess it's OK. States run lotteries and other forms of gambling knowing that they're getting a lot of welfare money back into their pockets.

    It's a "compassionate liberal thing".

It's a lot like marijuana use, it's GOING to happen whether it's legal or not. At least with it legalized the state can get a share of the money.

I would especially like to see First Nations in Canada exploiting the clean, green and extremely lucrative online gambling industry as a modern-day manifestation of traditional gambling rights as per evidence set out briefly here http://www.askbiblitz.com/Indian-gambling.php. I'd like aboriginals to get the green light first (but in return for a tax) b/c of the appalling way the federal Crown hog-ties Indians to reserves, which must be managed according to a peculiar set of special rules that invariably preclude productive use. Online gambling might be their ticket to pass GO! Perhaps they'll even divorce the Crown rather than subsidize the undeserving legal profession, which fails so utterly to provide even life necessaries to these people reliably, as successive reports by the Auditor General reveal!

I agree with a lot of the points on the 'No' side, but it all really comes down to the fact that, at the most basic level, gambling does not harm anyone. Yes, it can lead to people being harmed in some way, but most things have this problem. I cannot rightly be against something just because there is a chance that it could end badly, even if there is a high chance. That's not worth limiting liberty to me.

I believe they recently legalized gambling in Ocean City, Maryland. Either that, or they are going to. As a point of fact, most of the people who decided on this were not people from the community, they were out-of-towners. Most property owners in Ocean City are not even from Maryland, yet they get to make a decision that could be bad for the locals, just because they figure that gambling will bring in more tourists and then they will make more money. I have a much bigger problem with that than I do with legalized gambling.

As long as it is fair chance, I don't see why you shouldn't be allowed to waste your money at soemthing you like. If gambling were illegal, they may as well bring back prohibition.
