    Great Answer

    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

    On One Hand: Poisoning Dangers

Dr. Jill Richardson, veterinarian and poison specialist for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, says permethrin, a poison often used in the production of flea collars is dangerous. Flea collars at best only kill fleas around the neck and at worst can make your cat have seizures and even die from collar poisoning. Besides the danger to cats, humans, namely small children, can also become sick from permethrin.

    On the Other: Constant Control

Pet owners who are constantly battling fleas with their pets might feel the need for some sort of constant flea control. Flea collars offer about three months of relief from fleas and ticks. Flea collars also help stifle flea growth in the home and yard. It gives constant control over itchy fleas.

    Bottom Line

Cats are different from dogs with a higher susceptibility to flea poisons. Instead of a flea collar, you should keep your cat on a weekly flea control regimen. This should include topical flea drops and safe flea spray. Flea collars for cats are dangerous and should be avoided.
