If you flipped four coins simultaneously, its 2^4 possible outcomes

    hhhh
    hhht
    hhth
    hthh
    thhh
    hhtt
    htht
    htth
    thth
    tthh
    thht
    httt
    thtt
    ttht
    ttth
    tttt

16 total outcomes. If you were to remove the first coin, it would also be easy to see that there are only 8 different outcomes for 3 coins. 4 different for 2 coins. And only 2 outcomes for one coin.
