• That is a myth perpetrated by those that hate America. Both bin Laden and the US have denied ever having any relationship. It is about the only thing that we ever agreed on. Bin Laden got his funding from other Muslims, NOT the US. Yes, the US supported the local Afghani Mujahideen, but we did not provide any of the support that went to the foreign Mujahideen such as Bin Laden and Al Qaeda,

• "Al Qaeda" didn't exist at the time, its a pretty recent name, the Mujaideen formed much of the anti-west as we know it under the teachings of a man called Kotbe, though still very much trained and funded by the Americans.

• Al Qaeda grew out of OBL's Arab Mujahideen. We had nothing to do with their training or funding. We only dealt with the local Afghani Mujahideen.

Oh and I don't really hate the Yanks, I just hate the hundred-percenters who want to start Armageddon. I hate Al-Qaeda as well, just so you know. But given the extremism, whoever wins we lose. Back to the question, Mr Blaylock: would you be willing to support such a measure as I proposed (for sake of argument) to defeat Al-Qaeda or anyone else?

• These Mujahadeen were trained in camps established by the CIA in Afghanistan, they then went on to express their anti west sentiments Kotbe had taught, ironically with ideas similar to Strauss and his neo-cons.
