Eggs are an excellent source of nutrients such as protein, selenium and riboflavin and the eggshells may be ground to provide supplemental calcium to your dog's diet. Experts agree that, when properly cooked, they are an acceptable treat if the dog is already accustomed to receiving table scraps and does not have a sensitive stomach.
A diet of dog food will provide the same nutritional benefits your pet might derive from eating eggs. Raw or improperly cooked eggs introduce the risk of salmonella and, despite common belief, do not impart any additional benefits such as a shiny coat. Some dogs find eggs disagreeable to their gastrointestinal tract and suffer discomfort after eating.
You may offer cooked eggs as a nutritional treat for your dog, but only as a supplement an existing diet of dog food. Before introducing any new food to your pet's diet, consult your veterinarian.
