How can we ease the pain of a possible blown disc when we have no medical insurance and no money to spare for a doctor?

My partner has had chronic pain in his lower back similar to what it felt like when he blew a disc in his upper back a few years ago. The difference is that one healed within a month and this has been going on for over 3 months. Sometimes OTC pain relievers help, sometimes they don't. He works hard and has a very physical job but since he is 1099, he cannot afford a doctor. We need suggestions. He refuses to try anything that I have for back pain. (FLexaril/Ultram. PLEASE HELP HIM.

The only thing I can suggest, other than SEE A DOCTOR, is to use those soft gel ice packs - get some that are 10" X 15" which you can probably find at a medical store. It won't cure anything but will give temporary relief. I would suggest that you get about 3 of them - this way, while the first one is refreezing, you have another already to use.

One of you could get a job at Starbucks. They have a good health insurance program.
You could also just go to the doctor and not pay for it. It's not like our government doesn't do the same thing. What do you have to lose? Money means nothing especially when the money that does not exist.
