no. you do not teach your children to behave respectfully and more mature by throwing a temper tantrum yourself. there was no need to destroy a valuable piece of technology. if your daughter lost the right to have it (which I totally agree with. she was highly disrespectful) then find another use for it or take it to a pawn shop. she may have been disrespectful but he was destructive and wasteful, great lesson.

being a parrent does not mean getting to act how ever the hell you feel, it means being the grownup even when you do not want to be. he had time in preparing this with which to calm down, the heat of the moment would be much worse. when in a fit of adolescent rage his daughter says "I don't love you" he is likely to say something like it right back. alls not fair in love and war.

- Did you read the comments, and the follow up? It depends on how they are raised on how she would react to the situation. It was NOT his daughter's laptop. HE owned it. HE fixed it. HE updated it. HE could do anything he wanted to it. It seems that hiding it had been tried before. So he destroyed it. Remember, this was NOT a first offense, and he didn't mention other maybe more minor things, which I'm sure happened.
  
  NOTE: I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm saying I understand what he did and why.

- yeah I read it. I totally understand she lost the right to have access to a laptop. I never once denied she deserved to lose it... I said that by shooting a valuable piece of technology he is teaching her that tempertantrums are ok when you're the boss. format, reinstall, ebay. or local pawnshop (maybe trade it in for a new gun) wasting money because you can because you're the boss is NOT being grown up.

No, the man was out of control and dangerous. He over reacted to the situation which is probably why the girl went on there complaining in the first place. He should not be in charge of children, never mind a gun.
