Dr. Bernard Jensen, author of "Tissue Cleansing Through Bowel Management," suggests that you cleanse your colon at the beginning of each new season---about four times per year. Dr. Leonard Smith, M.D, a board-certified surgeon, says that "healthy people will find it valuable to take colon hydrotherapy every couple of months."
Dr. David H. Gorski, a surgical oncologist at Wayne State University School of Medicine, holds the belief that "[c]olon cleansing is a dubious and almost always useless procedure." Dr. Ed Zimney agrees. He claims a cleanse is not needed because "the colon is a continuously self-cleaning system."
The general consensus is that you should do a colon cleanse whenever your body gives you signs that one is needed. If you haven't had a bowel movement in three or four days, are constipated, and feel sluggish, these are indications that it may be time for a colon cleanse. The toxins in your system from not removing the waste may also bring about symptoms of illnesses, such as the common cold.

a balanced answer. I side with the science based medicine, wholistic nuts make assessments and what few results are seen from their few tests are the placibo effect because their tests are not adequately controled.
too bad this was not a balanced question. the option of never should have been available. proves the OPs faith in wholistic "medecine" precludes the possibility of not doing this.
