    Really, what do you expect?
There is no command given in the Bible to commemorate the birthday of Christ.
There is no evidence at all that the First century Christians celebrated the birthday of Christ.
Later, the corrupted, apostate Christendom took a Pagan holiday, the Saturnalia, repackaged it and called it Christmas.
The fact that commercialism and the “God of Greed” have high jacked the day should hardly surprise anyone.

Christmas as it is displayed now has NOTHING to do with the real reason for the season. With Walmart's policies and the ever present X-mas, Society is trying to rewrite the holiday without Christ. Yeah, yeah, I kmow that the day of the year was co-opted from a pagan holiday, but CHRISTmas was started out as a celebration of the birth of Jesus the son of GOD. Everything else is unrelated fluff.

It's unsurprising. We live in a capitalist society.

I don't care if it is commercial, I still consider giving gifts to people to be a good thing.

I'd be perfectly happy if Christmas was only celebrated in "church family" parties and services - the way Hanukkah and Muslim Eid get celebrated within minority communities. The name Christmas originates from Christ mass (mass= Catholic term for worship service), so it would only be getting back to basics.

If I ever have kids, I have no intention of having them believe in Santa - they will learn about St. Nick, who was a bishop in europe several centuries ago; advent calendars will have Bible verses instead of chocolates the way they should be; there will be family gift giving, but "giving not getting" and other generic "reasons for the season" will be emphasized as year round ideals.

..." and when the little drummer boy made his way down to the manger where the infant Jesus slept, Mary the mother of Jesus asked. "Where did you get such a lovely drum?" The little drummer boy answered. "Why, I got it for Christmas last year!"

In a way it has but it is nothing bad, I think. For eleven months people wait for this time and a little spending would not hurt, if not it is good for all. *smiles*

Eh. Getting? It's been that way for a long time. I think it's great for the economy. And, when you are having a nice time with the family, you are (or should be) focusing on them and not on how much money businesses are making.

I know people besides companies and stores that buy way too much stuff for Christmas instead of the right focus.

So has Easter - and now we (in Australia) are being brainwashed into accepting the lame US tradition of Halloween. Unfortunately, our kids lack the creativity of US kids and just use it as an excuse to chuck a towel over their heads and go around begging.

it's a time of giving so it's good to know what to get for everyone (your kids uncle bob auntie sue) but it's a bit over the top.

It's always been that way. Probably from before early Christians decided to jump onto the winter solstice bandwagon and declare that Jesus had been born on that day.

It has become a poor excuse to pick a mans pocket every 25th of December.
