    Great Answer

    Professionally Researched. (What's this?)

According to the Medical Wellness Association chocolate is good for the mind, body and spirit. Nutritionists, researchers, doctors, and scientists all agree that chocolate does have medical benefits if eaten in small portions.

    Effects on the Mind

Chocolate contains endorphins, amino acids that product serotonin, and anadamine. All which stimulate the brain or provide natural substances to the brain for daily functions.

Effects on the Body and Heart

Dark chocolate, in particular, has been proven to help heart function and reduce blood pressure or hypertension. Cocoa also has minerals such as magnesium, phosphorus and potassium that help the overall function of various organs in the body.

    Choosing the Right Chocolate

Dark chocolate has a lower fat concentrate and is therefore, more healthy than other chocolates. Milk chocolate contains more than double fat content than dark chocolate.

    Serving Size

Mary Engler, PhD, RN, of the University of California, finds that a 1.6 ounce bar of dark chocolate a day is good for you. In her study, people who ate a 1.6 ounce Dove dark chocolate bar every day for two weeks had better test results after the study than those who had not eaten any chocolate for the previous two weeks.

    Warning

Chocolate must be eaten in moderation. While a small serving a day can provide healthy benefits to the body, large servings can provide added fat which can lead to a multitude of health problems.

Yes but only Dark Chocolate. Milk chocolate has no nutritional value but the darker the chocolate the better it is. If you eat an ounce of dark chocolate daily and add a handful of almonds/walnuts with that you are doing your body a lot of good. A pound of chocolate? Not so good. But an ounce a day is the way to go!

Does it matter? I think the more expensive more "real"/not as processed chocolate is better for you to digest, but not as good for your wallet. Where cheaper, more common chocolate you might not get the best, but you get the best for your buck. Really though, is chocolate good for you *compared to what*? The pro in this debate is for chocolate, and the opposing view is... also for chocolate. Is this because the question of 'Which is better for you, processed or unprocessed chocolate?" has an obvious answer?

Dark chocolate is good for you, however it doesn't mean that a 350 guy will lose weight from eating 200 dark chocolate hershey bars a day. No offense to overweight people who chose to be overweight, but come on take care of that! Anyway, if it's pure chocolate without all of that crap that companies put in it to make it taste amazing, it is also good, heres a good tip for losing weight, if it tastes good, it's bad for you. (with some exceptions of course)

well dark chocolate is good for you in moderation, milk chocolate is just plain bad for you but its very good. the natives of south america used it as food but it was very t good for you. they also used it as money. the myans and the aztecs invented it around 1600 b.c. Only after the europeans conqured them did they add all of the sugar! thats where our bad health began.

I only like milk chocolate, but I find that whenever I feel depressed, eating a bar of my favourite chocolate soon lifts my mood. I've asked around and a lot of my family and friends get the same feeling when they eat chocolate while their mood is low. I don't know whether or not doctors believe chocolate is a natural anti-depressant, but it often works for me. And it may not be healthy to eat it every day, but then again, no one has died by eating a bar of chocolate as far as I know (unless it's an allergy or something). Not that I excuse it for being unhealthy in large amounts, but I see no real harm in chocolate, unless you're a dog (or allergic).

    No.
It's loaded with refined sugar. It's bad for you.
If you are substituting chocolate with sugar for something else with sugar, you may be better off. But if you have nothing like that in your diet and you start eating chocolate, you're worse off.

If it wasn't sweetened it would be ok.

Studies have shown heart benefits from increased blood flow, less platelet stickiness and clotting, and improved bad cholesterol. If yours blood pressure is high, chocolate may also help. A research at West Virginia's Wheeling Jesuit University suggests chocolate may boost your memory.nother reason to love chocolate is that it is high in oleic and linoleic acids. Oleic acid has so many good benefits to health that it should be put on the nightly news.
That's all the proof I found. Besides chocolate really tastes good, doesn't it?

Why is this even being debated on Answerbag?

No offense to the online brethren, but random people on an online forum don't really have any business declaring - one way or the other - whether a certain food is healthy.

This is a question that should be left to experts: doctors, nutritionists, and so forth.

The "Only in Moderation" answer basically says "real chocolate tastes bad imho, so chocolate isn't chocolate." Chocolate clearly is good for you. The 8572385728354832 chemicals companies add to it are not.

if i may recommend a book "From Chocolate to Morphine" Andrew Weil,a fascinating chapter on Chocolate and its health/healing benefits,i work long hours a few days a month and the above mentioned Hershey Bar is an instant jolt of energy, the key for me is to eat it quickly putting as much in my mouth without looking like a slob.

Of course, chocolate is good. I eat it every day - in small amounts. When I feel lazy and have no motivation for work, I buy the tastiest chocolate that I can find and my motivation quickly appears.
