Let's say you're a 17 year old [ turning 18 in early September] and you have almost all your driving hours you need to be able to take the driving test in early March (had to wait at least a minimum of 6 weeks from purchase of permit). So would you (Considering you don't have a job yet, not till possibly February):

A) Use your grandfather's van you've been driving 60% of the time
B) Use your neighbor's car you've been driving as well
C) Wait to buy your own car, but it would be a cheap piece of junk
D) Wait till you could buy a car between $1,500 and $2,500 to take the test
E) Get more practice in, while you get a job, and wait to take the test till June.

You can add an explanation, comment, or advice if you'd like.

Go ahead with the test in the car your most comfortable in.
It's ok to fail and take it again, relax.
You only need 75% to pass.
If you have to parallel park three times you could still pass.

Get on the insurance of one of the vehicles as an occasional driver.
Your insurance rates will be very high until you have 3 years of insurance history.
Help with the insurance expense if asked.
Eventually buy a car for between $1,500 and $2,500, and have hundreds of dollars set aside to put in good condition. Used cars usually have a problem the owner didn't fix.
Find it out, fix it, and do all needed maintenance, like the cooling system, especially.
Brakes and tires are more important then a new stereo, since if you crash, the stereo will do you no good at all.
