Is a car sale in Illinois final if the car has not left the lot and we havent even test drove? Please give us advice.

the dealership had us sign papers and were holding our checks and ensured us that nothing would be final untill we test drove the car and made a decision, however we just realised they have already cashed our checks a day ago, this made us very angry.

If you sign a purchase order/agreement then it's final. It doesn't matter if the car is still on the lot. The car could be on Pluto, and if you signed papers, then it's yours.

Unless you signed a "sales" agreement, it is not legal.
Sounds like you were tricked into signing the final bill, you should contact the office of consumer protection, and possibly a lawyer.
