Call it a labradoodle or a border beagle, a mixed breed dog is still a mutt.

Mutts are good, mixed-bread pomposity not good.

    I agree that a mixed breed dog is still a "mutt." As far as mutts go, I think they are the best dogs.....temperament wise.

    I don't understand why breeders charge such ridiculous prices for a mixed breed. My head sees no sense in this at all.

    All breeds of dogs are crossed. The difference between a mutt and a purebred is the purebred breeds true. Labradoodles are getting there, as are the peekapoo dogs. Before these, the Jack Russell and the Doberman were the "newcomers." Dingoes and Carolina Dogs are seperate species, all the rest are crossbred wolves.

    Technically true. I think the reason people attach a label to a specific cross between two breeds is because it produces a pretty consistent and specific result that appeals to people. For example people like the lab/poodle cross because of the size/temperament of the lab and the hypoallergenic hair/cuteness of the poodle that are always present.
