You're reading Is caffeine really bad for you? In what ways, specifically?
- which can also be phrased in the following ways:
Comments
It depends on the individual. Myself, I cannot have it as it gives me PVC's. However, my husband, who has A-Fib from three heart attacks, has no trouble with it.

Caffine has just been found to reduce the occurances of alzheimers (sp?) and parkinsons diseases in consumers. Not bad for you as far as this study seems to go.

Caffeine is considered a toxin but it also has it's good qualities. If consumed in moderation, the good could out weight the bad. Too much of it can have several negative effects on the body, including the heart and liver. Not recommended for consumption if you're doing a body detox.

Anything taken beyond its safe limits is bad. The problem with the question is that it forces people to be categorical is answering Yes or No. It is not if taken within limits, yes if you are going to sate yourself with it.

I drink 60 ounces of coffee every day. If caffein were bad for one's health, I would have been dead forty years ago.
Recent studies in Scotland and Holland, amongst others that I can't cite, show that caffeine significantly reduces the risk of heart problems and strokes. It sharpens mental acuity, wakes you up, adds pep to your activities, and reduces the effetcs of alcohol.
As QuatzKitty rightly points out, it is only one amongst dozens of foods that were demonised but have since been proven beneficial.
If you try to take away my coffee, you'll have trouble tying your shoes for a long time.

My brother is a chemical engineer for Dow Chemical... His Chem. final was to bio-engineer asprin apart and back together, now he doesn't take asprin..lol. His comment is, anything not naturally found in the body isn't gonna be good for it. My answer is moderation in all things. Having said that, I have had 2-3 cups in my entire 50 years.

I've heard pros and cons about coffee as far back as I can remember, everything from stunting my growth (when I was a kid) to giving me caffeine jitters. Now it's been proven that coffee can ward off diabetes in certain individuals, and that it's actually good for you in moderation. So go ahead and enjoy that cup of Joe every morning, and throughout the day, as long as it gives you enjoyment and no adverse side effects. I know I couldn't start my day without it.
