The irish president (the president) has made many visits to england , long before the british queen ever visited the republic of ireland.

She is not the equivalent of the Irish president.

- She is the Head Of State, as is the President of Ireland, so they are directly equivalent.

- A Head of State is a Head of State, regardless.
  
  You must be confusing the highly politicised position of a President of the United States with Presidents in other countries. Most Presidents, and certainly the Irish President, have a predominantly ceremonial function, with no ability to set policy. The head of the government is the Prime Minister (called the Taoiseach in Ireland).
  
  The formal powers and functions of the President are prescribed in the Constitution. The President, who does not have an executive or policy role, exercises them on the advice of the Government.
