Garlic can be deadly for your cats. Garlic can cause damage to your cat's red blood cells, which can lead to hemolytic anemia and eventual death. Brewer's yeast in small amounts (one-half tsp. mixed in food) can help to rid your pet of fleas.
If your cat has been infested with fleas and you don't want to use traditional flea collars because of health concerns, adding very small amounts of garlic to the cat's food can help make his blood unappealing to potential resident fleas. Remember, though, the debate about the safety of garlic is ongoing.
Veterinarians warn that garlic in any amount is unsafe for cats. If you want to use a natural remedy to rid your cat of fleas, rub brewer's yeast into her coat and also treat your house completely. Use this topical treatment as well as putting the brewer's yeast into her food.
