• He forfeit all his rights as a husband when he cheated on her. A father only has rights when he is married to the mother. If she is certain the law can force him to pay child support, then her lawyer can tell him. She does not need to tell that adulterer anything.

• An adulterer is no different than any other sex offender. I would not let him near my children any more than I'd let a rapist see his child. She can tell the children when they are older. There's no obligation whatsoever to tell the cheating father.

• You are letting law inform morality when it is morality that should inform law. Adultery involves sex, and it is absolutely wrong. In fact it can retroactively turn a marriage into a lifetime of rape. That the government does not recognize it as a crime is just another example of the inadequacies of U.S. law and of how far the law has fallen from moral decency.

• A father has rights to any child he is the biological father of, if he's recognized as such in the courts Christine. And man who believes he is the biological father of a child can pursue a paternity suit with the accompanying paternity tests. As can any woman who suspects any man to be the biological father of her child.
  
  For a biological father of a child 9as recognized by the courts) NOT to have any legal rights to a child, they must be removed by the courts.
  
  There are reasons and ways to go about doing this...but it's NOT automatic. If the mother believes the biological father should have his legal rights removed, then she must pursue this with an attorney.

• No one is perfect .. people make mistakes. Kids did not ask to be born and should never suffer for the mistakes of the parents. Every child is entitled to know who their biological parents are .. if they choose to know.
  
  If one parent denies a child the right to know the other .. they could end up being the "hated" one.
  
  I can see we're never going to agree on this .. so I'll leave you to your theory and hope it works out for you.

• At least we agree that children should be able to know who their biological parents are.
  
  The only exception I would make to that is if the mother was raped and decided to let the child be adopted. She did not choose to have sex and should be free of any complications whatsoever if that's what she wants. Even then it would be nice if she would allow her identity to be known to the child, but I could understand if she wanted to be sure she was never reminded of what happened to her.

  Interesting points.
  
  Let's also deny unmarried mothers access to their children, while we're at it. Fair is fair, I'd say.
  
  As for the rapist part...I already addressed this. There are ways of dealing with this in the courts...and it IS the courts which must decide to remove the parental rights to the legal father. Just as it is the courts which must do the same for a mother, if the circumstances warrant.
  
  As for what prevents an unmarried stranger from accusing you of extra-marital sex the day you become a mother...so what? If he IS the father of the child, he has a perfect right to have this recognized. If he is NOT the child ("perfect stranger") then who cares? The paternity test will prove it.
  
  Personally, I think EVERY live birth in this country ought to be accompanied with a MANDATORY paternity test to verify who the legal father is...or in some cases is NOT.
  
  This would have a rather interesting impact on the nature of cheaters, both male and female, wouldn't you think?

  Maybe she trusted him not to cheat on her. You cannot have a real relationship without trust. If he had not cheated on her, the child would have two parents. She should not have to give up her child because the father decided to make himself a sex offender.
